Summer Shell Dress for Kiki Doll

I loved KISS's Kiki doll crochet pattern, so I decided she needed clothes as well. Here's a pattern for a lovely, summery, shelly dress. (NOTE: I have only made this particular pattern once. I think the back is slightly too big -- it fits, but isn't very tight. If you would like to make it smaller before I get a chance to edit this pattern, I suggest chaining about 30 for the first time and ignoring the numbers in parenthesis.)

Yarn used: Worsted

Hook Size: F

Stitches: (in US terminology) Single crochet, double crochet, shell (dc 5 times in one st).

In Color A, Ch 33. Join into a circle with a sl st.

Rows 1-4: Sc around. Join ends with a sl st. (33)

Row 5: Sc around. Switch to Color B, join with sl st. (33)

Row 6: *3 sc, sc dec* around. Join with sl st. (27)

Row 7: *sc, sc inc* around. 1 extra sc in the last sc inc. Join with sl st. (43)

Row 8: 1 shell in 4th sc from hook, *skip 2 st, sc, skip 2 st, shell* rep from * 6 times, making a sc in last st. Sl st to join rows.

Row 9: Ch 4, *sc in top of 3rd dc in shell, ch 2, skip 2 st, dc on top of sc, ch 2* around. Join with sl st.

Row 10: Ch 4, *shell in top of sc, ch 2, skip 2 st, sc on top of dc, ch 2, skip 2 st* around. Sc in last st. Join with sl st.

Row 11: Repeat row 9.

Row 12: Sc around. Change to color A. Join with sl st.

Row 13: *Sc, sc inc* around. Join with sl st & tie off. Weave in ends.

OPTIONAL SLEEVE STYLES:

Sleeve 1 (Make 2): In color A, join onto top st of front of dress. Chain 7, attach to top of a stitch in back. Weave in or cut off ends.
--OR--
Sleeve 2: Ch 50, tie off. Pull chain through top center stitch on front halfway, then put the two ends through the loop and pull, as if making a tassle. Loosely tie around doll's neck to keep on.
